Sound Advice: HD DVD leaves Blu-ray in the dust

At less than $200 including seven or more movies, HD DVD players are a stunning value. Why pay twice the money when Blu-ray has serious issues and the movies look and sound the same?”

“I smile when I see people buying HD DVD players based on bargain pricing, because they are unknowingly getting the Ferrari as well. Despite its purported superiority and much higher cost, Blu-ray is the emperor with no clothes. HD DVD has been superior since day one.”

Assassin’s Creed exclusive tracks from Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed is just a few days away from hitting store shelves, much to the delight of many a gamer. Ubisoft was kind enough to whet gamers’ appetites with a preview of a few songs from Jesper Kyd’s magnificent score. The songs are called City of Jerusalem and Jerusalem Horse Ride and can be streamed or saved for your aural pleasure. The songs really made me reflect on how far game music has come — these are lush, expansive compositions that match the atmospheric excellence of full feature film scores.

Spears arrives in court

Hollywood’s highest-profile custody battle was back in court Friday, with Britney Spears and Kevin Federline going behind closed doors to work out custody arrangements for their two young sons.

Spears arrived at the courthouse in her white Mercedes-Benz convertible and giggled when asked by reporters outside the courtroom if she was nervous.

She was escorted by sheriff’s deputies and wore a black print dress and cowgirl boots.

Federline, her ex-husband, reached the courtroom a few minutes after Spears. He was wearing a gray pinstriped suit and an earring in his right ear.

Both were under court order to attend the proceedings.

A few moments after the hearing began, Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon closed it to the media at the request of Spears’ lawyer, Sorrell Trope.

Trope was expected to argue that Spears had complied with court orders and should regain the shared custody she lost earlier this month.

Earlier in the day, a lawyer for Spears won a motion to bar videotaping of deposition testimony in the case.

The New Nokia N81 and N82

Symbian-Guru has the scoop on not one, but two unannounced new high-end Nokia handsets, the N81 (pictured on the left) and the N82 (pictured on the right).

The slider-style N81 looks it’ll be the successor to their N91 musicphone (except less, uh, busted-looking) and sport a full 8GB of memory, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, quad-band EDGE and 2100MHz HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The N82 has a more traditional candybar form-factor and’ll have a five megapixel camera with Xenon flash and auto-focus Carl Zeiss lens, quad-band GSM (doesn’t say whether it’ll be GRPS or EDGE, but we’re guessing EDGE), 2100MHz HSDPA, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, integrated GPS, FM tuner, and a microSD memory card slot.

Doesn’t sound like either will be out until Q4 of this year.
